Weave with the Cricket

Ever been curious about weaving? We're hearing more and more of our customers expressing interest in it. With that in mind, we'd like to introduce you to the Schacht Cricket Loom.

Now in stock!

Schacht calls the Cricket "compact, capable, and cute," and we certainly agree! Its small size makes it convenient to set up just about anywhere. The Cricket is a great beginner loom, but the 15" weaving width also gives you a lot of flexibility to make more than just skinny scarves and belts. You can certainly make those on this loom, of course, but also think about wide scarves, placemats, table runners, narrow shawls, etc.

More good news: weaving doesn't require nearly as much yarn as knitting or crocheting, so it's a great way to use up leftover yarn. It's also fast--you can make a scarf in just a few hours! And if you need help getting started, just book a lesson with us and we'll be happy to assist you.

Genevieve got a lesson from Carrie on setting up her new Cricket loom yesterday.

The 15" Cricket Loom comes in a convenient carrying box and includes thorough instructions and yarn for a first project. Retail price: $174.

It's kitten season!

Sheepish is thrilled to be partnering with Dekalb County Animal Services again this year, fostering kittens here in the shop. In 2013 we helped 16 kitties find their forever homes. Let's see if we can beat that number this year!

We're off to a great start so far. These three brothers were with us for only a few days before they were all claimed. They all went to their permanent homes last week.

Bye, guys!

This week we welcomed Giselle, Grace, and Gusto. These three siblings look so much alike, we honestly can't tell them apart (well, Gusto's the only boy, so we can tell which one he is when we look at the back end). :)

These babies are about six weeks old and as you can see, they all love attention. They're playful and energetic, and have great appetites. Gusto seems to be the most snuggly of the bunch. He's a bit mellower than his sisters.

Stop by and meet these adorable kittens! They're not big enough to go to their forever homes yet, but you can apply to pre-adopt them. The $75 adoption fee includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, deworming, microchip and combo test. For more info about adoption, email adoption@dekalbanimalservices.com or call DCAS at 404-294-2165.

Looking for a cute bag to carry your project in? These little beauties just arrived! They're hand-made here in Decatur by Chrissy Weeks.

Just pop your project in there, zip the bag up, and go.

We have two sizes available, for $12 or $16. Please let us know if you're interested in a larger tote bag size--we might be able to talk Chrissy into making those, too!

Lucy Neatby double knitting patterns

Are you looking for a new challenge? Are you one of the many who became mesmerized by Carrie's Winter Games Challenge scarf? Then check out these recent additions to our pattern inventory!

Pretty cool, huh?

These are some scarves designed by Lucy Neatby that utilize the double knitting technique. On the top row are two different versions of the Paintbox Scarf, and on the bottom row the Bubbles Scarf and the Plaid Scarf.

With double knitting, you're creating two different fabrics at the same time. For example, on the Bubbles scarf shown above, one side appears as a white background with colored bubbles, while the reverse side shows a colorful background with white bubbles.

These patterns all call for Kauni Effektgarn yarn. We have a little bit of it in stock right now, and more skeins of the multi colorways, solid black, and solid white will be arriving in April. The patterns are all currently in stock.

Intrigued, but don't feel confident enough to try this technique by yourself? Carrie would love to teach you how! Call us at 404-377-6875 to set up a lesson.

Three years later

We're celebrating an important milestone in Sheepish history--as of today, shop cat extraordinaire Bibi has been cancer-free for three years!

Some of you didn't know us or Bibi then, so you might not be familiar with this story. In February 2011, we found a lump on Bibi's side. Tests revealed that it was a type of cancer called fibrosarcoma. With the financial support of many of our wonderful customers and neighbors, Bibi underwent two rather extensive (and expensive) surgeries to have the tumor removed.

This was Bibi recovering in March 2011. Her side was shaved, she had a huge scar with many stitches, was stoned out of her mind on pain medicine, and had to wear the dreaded cone of shame.

And here's Her Majesty now! The vet is amazed at how well Bibi bounced back from such a very aggressive type of cancer.

We'll never forget the kindness of the Sheepish community during those rough weeks after Bibi's diagnosis, nor care and skill of the folks at Saint Francis Veterinary Specialists who operated on her.

We love you, Bibi!!!
