Lucy Neatby double knitting patterns

Are you looking for a new challenge? Are you one of the many who became mesmerized by Carrie's Winter Games Challenge scarf? Then check out these recent additions to our pattern inventory!

Pretty cool, huh?

These are some scarves designed by Lucy Neatby that utilize the double knitting technique. On the top row are two different versions of the Paintbox Scarf, and on the bottom row the Bubbles Scarf and the Plaid Scarf.

With double knitting, you're creating two different fabrics at the same time. For example, on the Bubbles scarf shown above, one side appears as a white background with colored bubbles, while the reverse side shows a colorful background with white bubbles.

These patterns all call for Kauni Effektgarn yarn. We have a little bit of it in stock right now, and more skeins of the multi colorways, solid black, and solid white will be arriving in April. The patterns are all currently in stock.

Intrigued, but don't feel confident enough to try this technique by yourself? Carrie would love to teach you how! Call us at 404-377-6875 to set up a lesson.

Three years later

We're celebrating an important milestone in Sheepish history--as of today, shop cat extraordinaire Bibi has been cancer-free for three years!

Some of you didn't know us or Bibi then, so you might not be familiar with this story. In February 2011, we found a lump on Bibi's side. Tests revealed that it was a type of cancer called fibrosarcoma. With the financial support of many of our wonderful customers and neighbors, Bibi underwent two rather extensive (and expensive) surgeries to have the tumor removed.

This was Bibi recovering in March 2011. Her side was shaved, she had a huge scar with many stitches, was stoned out of her mind on pain medicine, and had to wear the dreaded cone of shame.

And here's Her Majesty now! The vet is amazed at how well Bibi bounced back from such a very aggressive type of cancer.

We'll never forget the kindness of the Sheepish community during those rough weeks after Bibi's diagnosis, nor care and skill of the folks at Saint Francis Veterinary Specialists who operated on her.

We love you, Bibi!!!

Spring sewing schedule

We're pleased to announce that Chrissy Weeks will be back to lead monthly sewing workshops here at Sheepish this spring! Sewing nights will be held on the fourth Thursday of each month, 6:00 - 9:00pm.

Upcoming topics will be:

March 27 - Sew an "Anything Organizer"
April 24 - Installing zippers and making buttonholes
May 22 - Sew a pillow (with the option of closing it with the zipper or buttonhole skills you learned at April's workshop)

On March 27, we'll finally be having the "Anything Organizer"workshop that had to be postponed twice over the winter due to ice and snow.

Of course, we think this project is an ideal place to keep your knitting needles and crochet hooks, but it's very customizable, so you can use it to store a variety of things.

Here's the list of supplies you'll need to bring:

  • Your Sewing Machine, all parts and manual if possible
  • Scissors – 6 or 8 inch dress shears are best
  • Measuring tape and/or ruler
  • Thread to match your project (but please have white, gray and black with you as a back up)
  • Pins and pin cushion or magnet
  • Tailor's chalk or other washable marking tool (regular pencil will work in a pinch)
  • Extra sewing machine needles
  • Hand sewing needles (small for finishing and sewing buttons)
  • Seam ripper
  • Whatever you plan to put in your organizer: knitting needles, crochet hooks, pencils, crayons, make-up brushes, paint brushes, etc...

Cost for the class is $20 (CASH or CHECK only, please). That includes the fabric and the pattern.

To register, email Chrissy at c@chrissyweeks.com or give us a call at 404-377-6875.

Signs of spring

Can you feel the excitement in the air? The first yarns of spring are starting to arrive! Here's a little shipment we just got in from Misti Alpaca.

A lot of people don't realize that Misti Alpaca doesn't just do alpaca. This is Pima Silk Hand Paint, a luxurious DK-weight blend of 83% cotton/ 17% silk. This yarn was very popular last spring and summer, and we're happy to introduce some new colors of it this time around!

Meanwhile, we're still seeing plenty of demand for Tonos Worsted. What's not to love about this buttery soft, kettle-dyed, 50/50 blend of baby alpaca and merino? We've brought back some tried-and-true favorite colors, as well as adding some fresh new ones.

What projects are you planning for spring?
